Governor’s bill signing ceremony to be broadcast
On Monday, April 5 at 2:00 PM, Governor Bob McDonnel will sign SB675 which requires health providers to cover costs of telemedicine services (using interactive audio and video to diagnose, consult and treat patients.)
Using telemedicing type technology, this signing ceremony will be “broadcast” to six locations in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula who have telemedicine equipment.
The local impacted agency responsible for managing and increasing the impact of the technology is the Northern Neck Middle Peninusla Telemedicine Consortium, an organization who has as it’s mission: “To increase the overall health and well-being of the communities in the ten county region of Northeastern Virginia.”
The member organizations of NNMP Telemedicine are: Bay Aging, Central Virginia Health Services; Rapphannock AHEC; Riverside Tappahannock Hospital; Three Rivers Health District; UVA Office of Telemedicine; VCU Telemedicine; Virginia Health Quality Center; Westmoreland Medical Center, Northumberland Economic Development Council, Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Rappahannock General Hosptial, Middle Peninsula Northern Neck CommunIty Services Board; Family Maternity Center of Northern Neck.
