image
The 1800s Burton House on Watling Street in Urbanna, home of Beth Justice and her husband, Rob McMordie, burned to the ground on the morning of Saturday, January 6. All Middlesex County volunteer fire departments and some from Gloucester and Lancaster were on the scene. Two cars parked in front of the structure also burned and were destroyed. Minimal damage was done to Buddy Wyker’s home next door. Justice and McMordie were taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester by the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad. A short time later they were airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. The fire started about 7 a.m. and firemen were still working the fire on Saturday afternoon. (Photos by Larry Chowning)
