Fire at Grey’s Point sends one man to the hospital

On Sunday, July 18, at 7 a.m., a fire at Grey’s Point Campground at Topping caused about $70,000 worth of damage to a camper and sent one person to the hospital, said Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department chief Alan Blake.
A 27-year old man had burns on his arms and legs and was airlifted to a Richmond hospital in Life EVAC III helicopter.
The fire also burned a canopy off another camper, scorched another and burned the camper to the ground, said Blake. The cause of the fire is unknown.
According to eyewitness and photographer Jeff Cherry, a dog was killed in the blaze.
Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department, Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department and Middlesex County Rescue Squad all responded to the fire.
